AirPay
Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 2, 2026
AirPay Inc. ("AirPay", "we", "us", or "our") operates the AirPay mobile application (the "App"), a service that lets you send and receive money and discover people nearby to pay them. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
By using AirPay, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive and store your name, email address, and profile picture. You also choose a username. We use Google and Apple sign-in only; we do not collect a password.
Payment information. When you send or receive money, we store a record of the transaction, including the amount, the counterparties, the date and time, your wallet address, and any note you attach to a payment. Transactions are permanent financial records and cannot be deleted.
Nearby discovery (Bluetooth). Nearby discovery is optional and off until you turn it on. Before AirPay can use Bluetooth, your device asks for your permission, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in your device settings. When enabled, AirPay uses your device's Bluetooth to detect other AirPay users who are physically close to you at that moment, so you can pay them without exchanging contact details. Important points about how this works:
- We do not collect, track, or store your location. AirPay does not use GPS location for nearby discovery.
- Nearby discovery uses short-range Bluetooth with rotating, privacy-preserving identifiers, so you are not continuously broadcasting a fixed identity that others could use to track you over time.
- The list of nearby people is temporary. It reflects who is near you right now and is not saved as a history of where you have been.
Device and technical information. We may collect standard technical information needed to operate and secure the App, such as device type, operating system version, and app diagnostics.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and profile;
- Process the payments you choose to send and receive;
- Enable nearby discovery so you can pay people around you;
- Maintain your transaction history;
- Keep the service secure and detect fraud or abuse;
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- Comply with legal and regulatory obligations that apply to payment services.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How we share your information
We share information only as needed to run the service:
- With other users. When you pay or receive money from someone, that person sees your name, username, and profile picture, and the note attached to the payment. When nearby discovery is on, nearby users can see your profile so they can pay you.
- With service providers. We work with third parties that help us operate AirPay, including our payments and wallet infrastructure provider (Coinbase) and our authentication providers (Google and Apple). These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the service.
- For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or a governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AirPay, our users, or others.
We do not sell your personal or sensitive user data, and we do not transfer it to third parties for monetary consideration.
4. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. We transmit personal and sensitive user data, including your account and payment information, using modern cryptography over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to personal and financial data is restricted to authorized personnel and service providers who need it to operate the service. We never publicly disclose personal or sensitive user data related to your financial or payment activity. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
5. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Because transactions are financial records, we retain transaction data as required to provide the service and to meet legal, accounting, and regulatory obligations, even after other data is deleted.
6. Your choices and rights
- Bluetooth / nearby. You can turn nearby discovery off at any time, and you can revoke the Bluetooth permission in your device settings.
- Account deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data. See our account-deletion page for the steps and for details of what is deleted and what must be retained.
- Access and correction. You may contact us to access or correct the personal information associated with your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
7. Children's privacy
AirPay is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of majority required to hold a financial account in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
8. International users
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than the one in which you live. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the App. Your continued use of AirPay after an update means you accept the revised policy.
